Friday - Rough Seas

Today we were rocking and rolling. Even before I was fully awake, I could tell that we were in for rough seas – it was all I could do to stay in bed. Prakasan delivered our breakfast about 8:30 am, which would be 5:30 am at home. They always get the order just right and everything is prepared to perfection. We even had flowers on our table. In an effort to ward off any seasickness, we put on our bracelets, put a dab of the “motioneaze” behind our ears and went back to bed. Then again, maybe it was just an excuse to take a morning nap. We were catching up on the latest news and finally decided to get ready for the day. That was easier said than done. I would say the swells were at least 14 feet, so the pitch and roll made it difficult to stand. We went to the dining room to get a bite of lunch. Mom had the QM2 club sandwich which was very unusual in that the bread had been put in an egg wash and grilled and it even had a fried egg on it. I had the quesadilla, which sounds rather basic, but in fact was really outstanding. Mom had the pineapple fritters for dessert which are normally served with vanilla ice cream. She made the comment about how it would be better with coconut ice cream and wouldn’t you know it, the dessert arrived with the coconut ice cream – we’re not sure where they found that! We may be slow moving in the mornings, but we did make the most of our afternoon. We went to the Planetarium for a show on “The Universe” – makes you realize how insignificant we are. Immediately following this we went down to the theater for a classical piano concert. He was not your ordinary pianist, but he could play the piano with the best. We really enjoyed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. At the conclusion we made our way down to the Queen’s Grill Lounge for tea. We opted for some tea with lots of caffeine so we could avoid falling asleep. The ship’s movement began to bother Mom, so we headed back to our stateroom. (So far so good for me – the motion bracelets are working!) We spent some time working on crossword puzzles and watching more news. I had thought about going to the gym, but after my trip forward to the library I realized it was ill advised. Tonight was a formal night, so we had to get dressed up for dinner – easier said than done! We ended up not getting down to dinner until about 8:00. We had pre-ordered sushi as an appetizer and we were not disappointed. We had an array of sashimi and regular sushi. The highlight for me was the dessert, a Grand Marnier soufflé. Not sure how it was made, or what was in it, but WOW. Since the seas are so rough, we went back to the room. I did go back out to watch the “comedic juggler” Goronwy Thom. I can honestly say that my expectations were not very high, but it was one of the best shows I’ve seen this week. In short, part of the show consisted of him riding a 6 foot tall unicycle while juggling which is hard enough to do on dry land, much less on a ship that it pitching and rolling! It really was a good time. We are now back in our suite getting ready to lose another hour of sleep and hoping for calmer seas tomorrow. Great to get comments from others who have been on the QM2 J I guess January is the month of birthdays, so Happy Birthday Elvis!

LOVE TO WALK THRU THEIR KITCHEN AND WATCH. HOW MANY ARE INTHE KITCHEN? HOW MANY ARE ON THE QM? MUST BE VERY ORGANIZED. BLOWS MY MIND HOW THEY COOK FOR SO MANY.
